300 – 300 CLUB
On May 4, 2017, Matt Holliday hit his 300th career home run becoming only the 27th player in baseball history to reach this plateau. At baseballsgreatesthitters.com, before doing some research, we believed this accomplishment was achieved by many more players. At times, we seem to forget that some of baseballs immortals,that include, Mickey Mantle, Frank Robinson, Alex Rodriguez, Ken Griffey Jr. etc. who we consider to have been 300 hitters, have fallen short of this prestigious number. Though they were 300 hitters for most of their careers, the lifetime batting average of these all-time greats dipped below the 300 mark as their numbers dropped in the final 2-3 years of their Hall of Fame careers. Some interesting statistics on some of the all-time greats who did not make the 27 player list. The following list will show the year the player passed the 300 Home Run mark and his batting average in that same year:
