The Golden Age of Baseball’s home run chase
One of the most defining moments of this Era was the great Home Run Chase in 1961. In an attempt to break Babe Ruth’s record two teammates – Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris went on a home run tear which attracted the attention of baseball fans across the country. This event was the first example of controversy surrounding milestones and records relating to the Home Run, as many people felt the record should be listed with an asterisk because in 1961 it took Roger Maris eight extra games to break the record.
