300 – 300 CLUB

On May 4, 2017, Matt Holliday hit his 300th career home run becoming only the 27th player in baseball history to reach this plateau. At baseballsgreatesthitters.com, before doing some research, we believed this accomplishment was achieved by many more players. At times, we seem to forget that some of baseballs immortals, that include, Mickey Mantle, Frank Robinson, Alex Rodriguez, Ken Griffey Jr. etc. who we consider to have been 300 hitters, have fallen short of this prestigious number. Though they were 300 hitters for most of their careers, the lifetime batting average of these all-time greats dipped below the 300 mark as their numbers dropped in the final 2-3 years of their Hall of Fame careers. Some interesting statistics on some of the all-time greats who did not make the 27 player list. The following list will show the year the player passed the 300 Home Run mark and his batting average in that same year:

.
Mickey Mantle Age 29 1960 320 Home Runs 303 Batting Avg.
Alex Rodriguez Age 27 2003 345 Home Runs 308 Batting Avg.
Ken Griffey Jr. Age 28 1998 350 Home Runs 300 Batting Avg.
Jeff Bagwell Age 32 2000 310 Home Runs 305 Batting Avg.
Duke Snider Age 30 1957 316 Home Runs 303 Batting Avg.
